Buying a company is a sales process. Slight paradox: you're the buyer, but you're still selling. Ben Tiggelaar's point was that the job is to solve the seller's needs.
This is where independent sponsors have an advantage. Funds & strategics usually have more fixed mandates. A sponsor can customize the structure, hold strategy, etc. around what the founder actually wants. And those wants change. Company dynamics change. Personal lives change.
Also: this is a very long sales cycle. Even with the right seller + right company, it can take forever. Being in the right place at the right time matters.
Good luck.
