Organization chart coloring. In board meetings I like to present a current view of the organization, and I use four colors to guide the conversation.
Red: this is either a new or recently vacated position, or urgently in need of replacement. Filling the role requires immediate attention.
Yellow: low performers or employees who have expressed a lack of motivation. These are the main discussion topics at the board level; make a plan for improving the organization.
Green: most employees are performing well. No action needed.
Blue: hopefully you have a few outstanding performers (= above and beyond). What can you do to stimulate and motivate them? Retaining them is key as they drive disproportionate value.
IMPORTANT: keep this chart strictly confidential, you definitely don't want it to end in the wrong hands.
Thanks to Edward Crawford 🇺🇸 who taught me this a few years ago.
