Keep the ball in your court

When dealing with business owners, don’t leave the ball in their court. They’re busy and many suck at following up, so you’ll be waiting forever.

Instead, before the end of each meeting, define the next steps and schedule a follow-up call. Example:

“So, these are the terms of the LOI. Why don’t you sleep on it, and then I’ll add 30 minutes on your calendar in 3 days from now to go over any questions. Does 2pm on Thursday work for that follow-up call? Yes? Great.”

Always leave the ball in your court, so that you can drive the process and dictate next steps.
