Hurricane Helene caused 8ft of storm surge flooding in our hometown of St. Pete, Florida, and wreaked total havoc on the local community. Our home thankfully stayed fine and dry, but just two blocks away the carnage is unreal.
Thousands of homes were inundated with ocean water up above the countertops, destroying floors, walls, built-ins, furniture, mattresses, memorabilia, vehicles, etc. Many of our friends have lost everything and several have nowhere to live.
The local community has rallied to support the flood victims. I've volunteered with hurricane cleanup, emptying and demolishing trashed houses. It looks like a war zone and the storm's had a crippling effect on the whole region.
Our kids’ school’s donation link is in the comments field below. May I suggest that if you were planning to make a political donation this fall, redirect those funds towards hurricane relief instead.
