Fundless, Generalist, Still Doing Deals

Charles (Chad) Scripps has been running Black Lake Capital since 2013.
They still sign ~500 NDAs per year, look at ~2,500 teasers, and close 1-2 deals.

What stood out is how process-driven he still is. Early on, 1 mgmt meeting per week was a KPI.
He also has no issue calling himself a “fundless sponsor” and thinks “independent sponsor” is basically lipstick on a pig.

And he’s a generalist. Also unfashionable.
Different from a lot of the conventional wisdom we hear.
